My apologies for the silence. Unfortunately I caught Covid at the start of the month, and I have been out of action ever since. The symptoms are no worse than a cold, but I’m still testing positive even now. I gather that rushing back to work afterwards is one of the primary causes of Long Covid, which I am not anxious to acquire. So I shall come back slowly! Be careful out there.
Feel better, dear friend.
Sorry to hear that you’ve been under the weather!
Thank you. Just washed out.
Sorry to hear of your illness. May I wish you a complete recovery!
Get well soon! Davila over at Paleojudaica had a similar problem.
I blame the curse of POxy 5575 . . .
Ouch. Poor guy…
Feel better soon Roger!
Thank you.
Hello, I hope you recover soon. I work with translations from Greek into English all the time and I am on a hunt for quotes from Patristic Literature. Some are really hard to find. There was one quote in a book which I only found online: https://archive.org/details/chrysostom-devil-bryson-2014/mode/2up?view=theater. In fact, this is how I got here, by searching your name mentioned in that book. I am trying to reference this book as a footnote, not sure how to do it, but will find a way eventually. I think this book exists on paper with another title and translated by someone else, but I don’t have it.
I was wondering is there a way to search in your database formed of all these rare texts?
Actually, I wanted to ask your advice. I am looking for a long time for a quote from G.D. MANSI (Sacrorum conciliorum nova et amplissima collectio) which has no index and is rather difficult to decipher. Do you know of a more practical version of it?
Hello,
Hunting for quotes is fun but hard work. I don’t have a database of texts, so I’m afraid I can do no more than you are doing, and google things. I see that Bryson’s translation of that Chrysostom text was done in 2014, so it would not be surprising if someone else has had a go since. I hope they acknowledge him!
I don’t have an electronic version of Mansi – sorry!
Best wishes,
Roger Pearse
No worries, I would have been very surprised if you did! I live in a place which has a good patristic library, so I cannot complain. Thanks for your answer.
Good!
