Elia was a West Syriac writer of the first half of the 8th century AD. He has come down to us as the author of a letter, addressed to Leo of Harran, setting out in 12 sections the reasons why he left the Chalcedonians and joined the Syrian Orthodox church. A Latin translation exists.[1]
